The Rocky Mountain News reports that "agent Scott Boras has let it be known through his media outlets that the expectation is for at least five years and $85 million in a deal for" Manny Ramirez.
A five-year contract would involve committing to Ramirez through his age-41 season, so that's going to be a very tough sell. Something along the lines of three years and $50 million seems more likely.
Will someone be dumb enough to give him five years? I have to say no but there are some dumb GMs out there.

J.P. raises 6 years at 120M then release Manny after a year at a full buyout

If an injury prone JD Drew can get a 5 yr/70ML then I dont see why someone who has no injury history, consistently averages are BA .300+, 40+ HRs, 133 rbis, and a 400+ OBP, also a great postseason hitter wont get anything less than a 5 yr 100 ML deal.

His age is the major concern.

If Clemens can get 20+ mil at his age then I dont see why not pay him, plus he hasn't shown any signs of decline production wise.

I see three years at 60 million, with a fourth year as a team option with a buyout. I do think however that the less years Manny gets, that the incentives he'll push for (monetarily speaking) would be pretty unreal.... and that he would probably reach most, if not all.

Clemens signed four month deal, not five years.

A 1.209 OPS in the post-ASG part of the season. Manny is still legit talent wise, a fan draw, and a merchandise mover. I can see teams putting up big cash for him if it's at three years or less but I wouldn't be shocked by a four or five year deal either, with the signing team realizing that they'll pretty much be eating the deal by that point but seeing the current reward worth the risk.

Yes thats true, my point is he still got paid like he was in his prime, also Giants signed Bonds to a 4 yr 70-80 ML extension aswell when he was in his mid-late 30s, so I dont see why not give him the money.

Bonds is a different story. Bonds got his extension either after his 72 HR season or the 2002 WS run. I forget. Hard to let him go after that.

Reason Manny won;t get a long term deal and not for as much money as he wants is plain and simple, he gave up on his team in Boston. You think GMs are dying to get a guy like that? How do they know he won"t do the same thing for them? Just because he is hustling for Torre in LA doesn't mean he will do it just anywhere.

Okay if he "gave up" on his team stuff was true then he has been doing the same ****ing shit for years, I dont recall Boston having an issue with him before this year. But hey they won 2 WS so now they can say all kinds of shit about him.

They are in the playoffs without him too. He has had problems for years and everyone knows he gave up on his team.
