Not 100% sure why Boston would do this, but OK..

Possibly to block the Rays. Giles also has the right to veto a trade to 10 teams and Boston is on the list. Looks like it was a simple cockblock.

He woulda been a 5th OF here, he wanted to play, retire a Padre, and stay near his family and daughters... I can respect that, good luck with your career Giles, you've earned 1 fan for the way you handled this.
