The Blue Jays are close to signing Alex Rios to a six-year deal worth $65 million, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
An option could make the contract worth $80 million. Rosenthal says the deal would start with the 2009 season, so it sounds about right as far as money. Rios is probably going to be due at least $18 million in his final two seasons of arbitration, so the Jays would get his first four years of free agency for under $50 million. As athletic as he is, it's easy to see him aging particularly well and lasting into his mid-30s as a fine corner outfielder.

Great signing for a good ball player. I would have loved to see Rios in a Giants uniform but not for Lincecum. Rios is making less than Aaron Rowand too

He's 27 and only getting better. Jays fans should be very happy that got this guy for so cheap.
