Yusmiero Petit will make his first career major league start on Wednesday.
Petit is taking Brian Moehler's turn in the rotation. He is 2-3 with a 4.21 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A. Chris Resop will be sent to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room on the roster for Petit.

Josh Willingham was given a routine day off on Tuesday.
Willingham has been in a small-slump the past couple weeks and manager Joe Girardi wanted to give him a day off. ''He doesn't look a bit different to me,'' Girardi said of Willingham, who has gone 8-for-38 with no home runs since coming off the DL on June 22. ``Sometimes you can see, but I don't see a lot with [Willingham].'' He did pinch hit late in the game and struck out.

Yusmiero Petit was credited with his first major league victory after surrendering five runs in six innings against the Nationals on Wednesday.
Petit settled down nicely after giving up four first-inning runs. That the Marlins offense supplied him with three runs in the first and four in the second -- not to mention eight in the fifth -- only helped him get comfortable. Petit might not remain in the rotation following the break, but he should be up for good by August or September

Marlins recalled LHP Jason Vargas from Triple-A Albuquerque.
With a doubleheader coming up this weekend, the Marlins wanted another fresh arm. Vargas' stay figures to be a short one, as the club would probably prefer to have him starting games in Triple-A than relieving in the majors

Dontrelle Willis hit a grand slam and picked up a win after holding the Mets to three runs in 7 1/3 innings of work on Friday.
The homer came off Mets starter Jose Lima. If it had come off a real major leaguer, it would have been the first grand slam by a pitcher since Robert Person in 2002. Willis struck out nine, but scattered 14 baserunners and used a little help from reliever Randy Messenger while recording the quality start. He's 6-7 with a 3.94 ERA.

Ricky Nolasco was bombed for nine runs in 1 2/3 innings by the Mets in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
This after he gave up seven earned runs in four-plus innings Monday. The two starts took his ERA from 3.26 to 5.00. If Nolasco can't bounce back next time out, the Marlins might have to temporarily remove him from the rotation.

Cody Ross, who has been limited by a groin injury, is making his first start since June 30.
Jeremy Hermida is sitting against left-hander Tom Glavine, so Ross gets the nod in right field

Anibal Sanchez limited the Astros to a pair of singles over seven scoreless innings to win on Saturday night.
Aubrey Huff isn't solving all of Houston's problems. Sanchez, who walked five against the Nationals last time out, was forced to throw just 87 pitches in seven innings tonight. The Astros' only run came when Lance Berkman singled in Chris Burke in the ninth inning off Joe Borowski, and the Marlins ended up winning 3-1. Sanchez remains a very risky play in NL-only leagues.

Scott Olsen limited the Astros to three runs over 5 1/3 innings of work today to record the victory in a 9-3 Marlins' win.
It wasn't one of Olsen's better days, as he walked four and gave up six hits while needing 93 pitches to retire 16 batters. However, he struck out six and pitched out of enough jams to record the win anyway. The left-hander has a 2.86 ERA since the start of June and is worth using in most leagues against the Pirates next time out.

Jason Stokes' second homer of the night was a walkoff shot that gave Triple-A Albuquerque a 9-7 win over New Orleans last night.
His second two-homer game in nine days. Unfortunately, Stokes is at just .264/.350/.447 for the year. That line doesn't cut it for a 24-year-old first baseman playing at one of the PCL's top parks for hitters.
