After Joe Borowski blew a two-run lead in the ninth, Taylor Tankersley protected a three-run lead in the 10th for his third career save Saturday against the Brewers.
He fanned two in the inning. Borowski will keep his job for the rest of this year, but he's unlikely to be back in 2007. It's possible that Tankersley will have an opportunity to take over as the Marlins' closer next season. He has a 2.67 ERA in 30 1/3 innings.

Marlins recalled outfielder Eric Reed from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Reed hit .303/.344/.438 with 20 steals in 29 attempts for Albuquerque. It's not a line that figures to make him a candidate to take over as the Marlins' center fielder next year, and with the Marlins miraculously in contention, he probably won't get a lot of playing time this month.

Dontrelle Willis earned his 10th win of the season by throwing a complete game shutout against the Phillies on Sunday.
Willis looked dominant while striking out 12 and walking just one, with all three hits he allowed being singles. He had experienced cramping bad enough to pull him from his last start, but it certainly wasn't an issue today for Willis. The left-hander has four wins and a 2.41 ERA since the start of August.

Sep 12 The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Juan C. Rodriguez reports Florida Marlins 2B Dan Uggla established a career high Sept. 11 against the New York Mets with five hits, one of which was his 24th homer, in a 16-5 rout of the New York Mets. That tied him with Joe Gordon of the 1938 Yankees for most ever by a rookie second baseman. The five hits also tied a single-game club record achieved eight other times.

Scott Olsen pitched very well for eight innings, but his bullpen blew his chance for a win.
Joe Borowski was one out away from nailing down a Marlins' win before blowing the save and allowing the Mets to force extra innings. And then the Marlins literally threw the game away in the 11th when Jose Valentin scored the go-around run on a wild pitch and a throwing error allowed Ricky Ledee to score.

Dan Uggla set the rookie record for home runs by a second basemen with 25 when he took Braves starter Lance Cormier deep for a two-run blast tonight.
That's right, Dan Uggla. The record was previously held by Joe Gordon, who hit 24 long balls as a second basemen with the Yankees in 1938. Gordon actually totaled 25 that season, but one of them was while he wasn't playing second. Uggla is also tied with Josh Willingham at just one homer behind Preston Wilson for the Marlins' rookie record.

Anibal Sanchez took a loss in a complete game after giving up two runs in eight innings Saturday against the Braves.
Sanchez was 4-0 in his last five starts. He was able to finish tonight's game despite getting hit on the wrist by a liner off the bat of Andruw Jones in the fourth inning. Manager Joe Girardi and the trainer came out to look at him, but he was fine.

His ERA is like 2.90. Too bad his MLB debut was in late June or else he'd have been NL ROY material.

Josh Johnson will likely miss the rest of the year because of a strained right forearm.
"If there is a little strain, he won't pitch at all the rest of the year," manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday. "He played catch [on Monday] and he still felt a little stiff, so I'm not going to start him [Saturday]. It's not worth it." Especially disappointing is that the injury apparently will prevent him from qualifying for the ERA title. He currently ranks fourth in the NL with a 3.10 ERA in 157 innings.

Man, Johnson going down does not bode well for these guys. He has been a huge part of their success this season. Tough break. Any word on his return?
