According to the Miami Herald, the Marlins have been in serious talks to trade Mike Jacobs, Scott Olsen and Kevin Gregg.
The Royals nearly became suitors for Jacobs last week, but the Fish weren't happy with the health of the pitching prospect that they were going to receive. Still, talks with other teams remain ongoing. The Marlins would let Gaby Sanchez compete for a starting job if Jacobs is moved. Moving Olsen would open up a rotation spot for Andrew Miller.
The Cards should be players for Olsen but more importantly Gregg. Cards are going with Perez as their closer as of right now. Jacobs hit 32 HRs and drove in 93 runs but had an awful BA and OBP. The Royals could definitely use his power so I don't think the Royals are done trying. Toronto and San Francisco have also spoken to the Marlins about Jacobs. The Marlins finished third in the division and with the right moves, they can push themselves farther in the division next season.

The Kansas City Star reports that the Marlins are "pitching" Mike Jacobs to the Royals, Mariners and Blue Jays.
Florida reportedly had a deal for Jacobs worked out with Kansas City, but backed away because of health concerns over pitching prospect Carlos Rosa. With Jacobs entering his first season of arbitration eligibility and the Marlins always trying to cut corners, the 28-year-old first baseman looks likely to be moved after hitting .247/.299/.514 with 32 homers and 93 RBI.
All three teams could use his production and its a good thing all three teams are in the AL. Jays can use him as a DH and the M's can use him at first and DH. The Giants were also supposed to be interested but maybe Sabean has better things in mind.

Marlins acquired RHP Leo Nunez from the Royals for first baseman Mike Jacobs.
A nice pickup for the Marlins, as Nunez is 24 years old, cheap and has posted a 3.42 ERA with a 63/25 K/BB ratio in 92 innings over the past two seasons. He'll likely slide into a setup role initially, but could be in the mix for saves at some point in 2009.
Good pickup for the Marlins. He had a 2.98 ERA this year and will help out replacing Kevin Gregg who the Marlins are shopping now. Jacobs production and shitty OBP can be duplicated by Dallas McPherson and on the cheap, just how the Marlins like it.

MLB.com reports that the Marlins are "aggressively" shopping Scott Olsen.
Texas and Cleveland have been linked to Olsen, and the Rangers seem like an especially good fit given that the Marlins are said to be looking for catching help. Olsen is arbitration eligible for the first time and the Marlins have plenty of young rotation depth.
Olsen is just 24 and threw 200+ innings last season with a 4.20 ERA. He still has room to improve so he could easily move from the back of the rotation to the #3 hole for some team. Texas and Cleveland need him and the Cards and Giants have plenty of OFers to offer.

A rumor has the Braves looking to acquiring Olsen as a backup plan to Peavy.

Now that the Marlins have dealt Scott Olsen, Josh Willingham and Mike Jacobs, the next likely candidate to be moved in reliever Kevin Gregg. Entering his third season of arbitration, meaning he can become a free agent in 2010, Gregg almost certainly will be dealt, according to numerous sources.

One thing complicating a possible deal is the fact the 30-year-old right-hander is recovering from surgery. About 2 ½ weeks ago, the right-hander underwent a procedure to correct left patella tendinitis. Gregg, who had 29 saves in 38 opportunities in '08, experienced discomfort in his left knee for several weeks in the second half. In late August, the problem became so bad that he was removed from the closer role.

Gregg is expected to be ready for Spring Training. He's a versatile reliever who has previously been a starter.

-- Joe Frisaro
Gregg's a quality reliever and a lot of teams could use him. I'm sure somebody's willing to overpay for a guy with good closer experience.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com speculates that Jeremy Hermida "could be the next arbitration-eligible Marlin to be traded."
He adds that trading several other players means the Marlins "are now flexible enough to be choosy." According to Rosenthal, the Cubs and Rays are among the teams interested in Hermida, who's a 24-year-old career .267/.342/.436 hitter.
Hermida would be a damn good fit in Tampa Bay and wouldn't have to move that far. 24 years old and still learning at the MLB level. Maddon would have a blast with this guy. Looks like the Marlins might just keep Uggla unless blown away in a deal.
