Matt Treanor suffered a lower abdominal strain on Monday night, creating catching need for the Marlins. Treanor is expected to go on the DL on Tuesday, and the team is expected to select the contract of John Baker from Triple-A Albuquerque. Paul Hoover and Baker, for now, are in line to split catching duties. Even before Treanor's injury, the Marlins were eying veteran catching help. Names to watch are David Ross (Reds), Miguel Olivo (Royals) and Yorvit Torrealba (Rockies). Nationals veteran Paul Lo Duca doesn't appear to be in the mix. His throwing arm is an issue.
Ross could be had pretty easily as the Reds still have 3 catchers in their lineup. The Reds shouldn't be looking for much in return for him either.

Also, I have heard the Marlins have interest in David Weathers as well. I wonder if a package could be put together?

Either way, this catcher thing sounds imminent.

Kelly Shoppach for the Indians looks real appealing if I'm the Marlins GM.

2008 Giants > Padres

Pathetic Stat of the Year- Matt Cain has a 3.74 career ERA, but has won just 30 of his 104 starts.

He would be better than the three mentioned for sure.

Well, how long is Victor Martinez out? Otherwise, Shoppach played well, better than I'd ever imagined recently against the Twins. It'd be a decent pick up.

Twins All-Time Record since the day I exist
3,955 total games (1964-1991), .496

Didn't think about Victor being out.
