Marlins acquired infielder Wes Helms from the Phillies for cash considerations.
Helms hit .329/.390/.575 in 240 at-bats for the Marlins in 2006, earning him the multiyear deal the Phillies would soon come to regret. They're likely giving the Marlins a portion of the $2.9 million he was still owed. Helms will serve as a backup at third and first. It's possible he'll begin getting most of the playing time at third if Jorge Cantu falters.

Its a good pickup for the Marlins but that's the only team it would be good for. Helms and Cantu at third make for a decent platoon and neither are real starters. Plus the Marlins didn't have to give up any talent for him.

McPherson had his chance to be the third baseman and blew it in spring training. Injuries and no offense get you AAA work.

The Brewers had the same ill feelings when they signed Helms also. Too much $$$ for the amount of return production from him. Helms=Bust

He may do well in Florida. He can relax and just play. No expectations.
