Granderson,Tigers Talk Long Term

The Tigers have initiated talks with centerfielder Curtis Granderson on a long-term contract extension, according to one person with knowledge of the discussions. A conversation this month between the team and agent Matt Brown was preliminary, the person said, and did not address contract length or salary. Granderson, 26, is not scheduled to enter free agency until after the 2011 season. He made $410,000 last year. The team could tender him a similar contract for the upcoming season, since he is not eligible for salary arbitration.

Granderson is one of the best leadoff men in the game and plays one helluva CF. He should be in the Tigers plans for a long time.

Outfielder Curtis Granderson and the Detroit Tigers agreed Monday to a five-year contract that includes a club option for 2013. Granderson had a breakout season last year, hitting .302 with 23 homers and 74 RBIs along with 38 doubles, 23 triples and 26 stolen bases. "We are excited to have Curtis signed to a long-term contract with the Tigers organization," Tigers president Dave Dombrowski said. "Curtis is one of the best young players in the game and a quality individual that represents the Tigers well both on and off the field."

Very good move, IMO. Granderson is a quality player that has shown his ability to play at the major league level. The Tigers appear to want to be a very good team for a long time.

Exactly. This was a great deal for the Tigers. Granderson really has become a great player and a fan favorite around Detroit.
