The Tigers extended the contract of manager Jim Leyland through 2009.
A one-year extension was all Leyland wanted and is what he got. "After our conversation yesterday, we are pleased to extend Jim's contract through the 2009 season," GM Dave Dombrowski said. "We are very happy with the outstanding job he has done and with the leadership he provides our organization. We look forward to Jim managing the Tigers for a long time." Leyland is 62, so we doubt it will be for that long of a time.

Yeah, no shit! Leyland did a good job with what he had. Way too many injuries to allow them to compete late in the year. Moves will be made but not many.

If the Tigers wouldn't have done this then they would be one of the worst front offices in the MLB.
