The Rockies could finalize a deal for Josh Towers or Steve Trachsel before they need a fifth starter again Saturday.
They were desperate enough to turn to Tim Harikkala today. The Rockies also inquired about Chad Gaudin, but Oakland's price was too high. He wasn't going to clear waivers anyway.

I don't see any of the two really helping a playoff push but I guess it's better than Harikkala. Trachsel's walks have killed him this year and Towers just flat out blows weiners. Trachsel would be my choice due to the fact he knows NL hitters and has the better ERA.

18 dingers in 99 innings for Towers... way to use your head Colorado.

The funny thing about Towers is that he actually has a G/F of 1.37 which obviously indicates a groundball pitcher, but the fact that he has given up so many bombs shows that he just lays fat ones over the plate which is not a good look in Coors.

Yep Morales has a blazing fastball and mixes in a nice curveball as well. I want to see him too. I don't live far from Denver, and I would love to go watch him in his debut.

Rockies acquired RHP Ramon Ortiz from the Twins for infielder Matt Macri.
Ortiz isn't the answer, but neither was Josh Towers nor Steve Trachsel. Ortiz had a 5.75 ERA in 10 starts for the Twins in April and May. He had since worked out of the pen as a mopup man, compiling a 4.15 ERA. The Rockies figure to use him as a starter, though he's unlikely to go in place of Aaron Cook on Thursday. Elmer Dessens is still expected to get the nod then.

I just don't know what the Rockies are thinking!
