I don't mind this move if it is a precursor for something else. If not, it doesn't make much sense.
If Conine and Hatte are leaving? Sure. Dunn? I'll pass like I said, I just can't envision us getting a deal that is even close to replacing the value we'll lose based on the market and the grumblings. Factor in the front office wanting to win and I could see us going bigtime on a really bad contract in the offseason.

I think it's a good move, Cumberland and Cantu are talented. Medlock and Shackelford, not so much.

Medlock ceiling is a 7th inning type or in other words A Dime a Dozen. Shackelford is useful as a LH specialist, but he was buried and even taken off the 40 man in the winter I believe. We have accumalated alot of LHRP's over the past yr so I just don't see where he fits anymore.

Cantu's talent is strictly as RH bat with some pop who has a knack for driving in runs, what exactly is wrong with that? If he can prove to play 1st Base and give us a tad of versatility in a pinch to 3rd or 2nd or most likely LF or even the bench he is worth far more than those 2 relief pitchers EVER would have. Cumberland can run, hit for power, and I haven't heard about his defense but perhaps he's not a bad defender either. What he does do is give the Chattanooga club a reasonable OF option right now, and that's huge because we are thin in this area AA and above.

Both Cantu and Cumberland are also both still young enough to have plenty of upside. I cannot see this as anything but a win-win for us. Oh one other thing both of these guys hit far better away from their respective home fields.

I give this deal a

But I am waiting on the other foot to drop, I wanna a couple of solid deals done prior to Tuesday.

When and how the Reds add to their five World Championships, nine pennants and nine division titles seems less important than the franchises' lineage, which traces a line back to the dawn of the professional game and their role as keeper of the historic flame they lit by birthing the Red Stockings in 1869.

Cantu could really excel with a new team and a hitter friendly park. I'm kinda siding with mission on this, Cantu showed promise, then injuries and other players bogged him down. Plus, getting out of a wasteland in Tampa could do wonders for any player (not saying the reds are some great contending team, but Tampa hasn't showed life since they were born). He and Phillips could make a good infield punch.

Could be a good bench player if he gets his power back.

This is typically the type of move Krivsky seems to do well with.

His scouts seem to be able to pick up on "workable" players who can return to the point of reaching past potential or reaching it for the first time.

I like the move and think could at least turn into a good PH off the bench over the next couple years.

Good move, IMO.

I think its a great move for the Reds, Cantu and Tampa Bay weren't getting along at all, so I think a new team is exactly what Cantu needs.

i look at it as a garabage for garabage deal.. really not losing anything so if we don't gain anything.. big deal... the only problem being lets hope its not a trend for tradinng pitchers for position players..

unless of course it could be to drop some pitchers so we can add some with trading of the MLB players we have
