Well, since we took too long on the previews, we've decided to not touch the NL, and instead field questions from S3F members. If you'd like to ask a question for the genious brains of this podcast, just post on the mailbag thread, or send either browntown653 or giantsfan5689 a PM, and we'll get your question on the air!
I'll have you know, Prince Fielder would beat Matt Stairs in a foot race.
Great work once again fellas. You never let us down. You guys have an excellent flow.
Interesting perspective there brownie. "Why doesn't every pitcher pound guys inside?" It does seem to be the excuse of the media these days. But if you look at it, a lot of these hitters we are talking about make their living off the inside part of the plate. Their bat may just be a bit slow in the early going.
CC Sabathia looks abysmal compared to last season, but I have no doubt that he can turn around. He is going to have to get his command back to where it was last year. Hopefully he doesn't become the next D-Train. His pitching coach is going to have to figure out what is going on with his command and give him tips on how to get it back. I knew he wasn't doing good at all, but when you guys compare his numbers so far this season to what he did last year, he is far and away a different pitcher right now.
It is just crazy to see the Tigers lose so much and we have to chalk it up with the pitching. You can only hope it will get better and I agree with you guys, they are going to have to trade for pitching soon.
The Reds have 3 catchers right now. Moeller won't keep it up, so you can start looking in Javy Valentin's direction. Or just wait for Jesus Montero to come up. Dude is supposed to have SICK power.
Great questions by Zito! Speed is a big and underrated part of the game. The Marlins seem to love it, but outside of them, many teams don't seem to care about that tool as they care about others. That is an interesting stat that brownie threw out there as well. Henderson vs. Incaviglla (sp?). But giantsfan hit it on the head, you have to have a high success rate. Singles into doubles are awesome as well, not to mention ground covered on the defensive end of the diamond. Most guys with speed have the ability to provide a tremendous amount of range. Bottom line, for me, I would rather have Carlos Gomez's tools than Adam Dunn's. Both bring their own part to the game, and both would be essential parts to building a team. But what tool do you favor?
I bet Bonds has talks with Seattle, when they find out how expensive he is, they will opt to go after Griffey Jr. Reds will in turn ask for Clement, and then realize that he is a lefty and then nothing will happen at all. Perhaps, Giambi or Matsui will get hurt and the Yankees will find the need to pick him up for the playoff push.
I guess it is kind of hard for Yankee fans to care about the MLB draft because they are so dominant in the regular season standings every year and are at the bottom few teams in the draft order. Then again, the interest may be sparked a bit now as you start to see a lot more young players get their shot in a Yankee uniform this year.
You guys prepare extremely well! Very good podcast!
Thanks redsrbetter! The funny thing is...we hardly prepared at all haha. I should have done some more preparation, especially for the draft talk. In fact, I think since I feel like I let everyone down in that category, I think I'll post a draft preview in a few days when I do some research. Because 1) I'm interested in it, and 2) I think I let you guys down there. You asked a good question, and I failed to answer it in a complete manner. Expect a draft preview in a few days.
