Lohse, Villone, Chacon? -
01-26-2008, 04:20 PM
per mlbtraderumors.com
According to Scott Boras, he and Andy MacPhail have discussed six or seven of his clients. Among them are Kyle Lohse, Ron Villone, and Corey Patterson. Lohse would probably not sign for two years, I'm guessing. Or in the American League. Who else might they have discussed? Jeff Weaver? Anyway, it's nice to see the Orioles getting along with Boras!
Zrebiec notes that the O's have had "preliminary talks" with the agents for Shawn Chacon and Steve Trachsel. Looks like MacPhail just wants some warm bodies for the back end of the rotation. Chacon seems to prefer to the Pirates, and a return to Pittsburgh looks "increasingly logical."
Zbrebiec says Rod Barajas seems to be headed elsewhere despite "significant discussions" with Baltimore.
|
Trust me, you don't want Lohse. He will be mediocre but why go after him right now? Your rotation is not the concern right now. I would be looking to get rid ofplayers and not adding contracts. Guthrie and Patton will hold it down for now and Olsen is coming soon. Even if you trade Bedard, why go after this guy?

Yeah he would, but like I said, why add salary when you are rebuilding and looking for young/cheap talent.
Lohse may be young, but he will not be cheap and he is hardly talented.

Oh ok, sorry I didn't understand what you meant.
As a Reds fans, I can say that Lohse was decent for us last year and he did his thing with the Philsas well. But he will hardly be worth half of what he will get in free agency. I just don't see it being a wise move for the O's, who are not contenders.

Shoulda added (Bartolo) Colon to the thread title as well just cuz it'd make it sound even more funny than it does.

Yeah the NL Central is extremely weak. I can agree with that for sure. Perhaps it makes it easier as a fan to cope with mediocrity. Not that I am praising it so much because as we all know my beloved Reds have defined the term.

Kyle Lohse has pretty good stuff, but lacks focus. When he is in a close game, he can pitch pretty well.
This said, I think he would be a guy that I'd pass on. He needs a lot of psychological help from a pitching coach.
