Lance Berkman is a man!
May 13, 2008 - 8:40 PM - by Tedc
Lance has been on fire as the Astros continue to hit well after a slow start.

"On Monday, Berkman was named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 11. The 32-year-old led the Majors with a gaudy .682 (15-for-22) batting average and a 1.136 slugging percentage on his way to winning the weekly honors for the second time this season and fourth in his career. Berkman is the only player so far in 2008 to win the award twice."

I'm sick of this!!!
May 14, 2008 - 1:13 PM - by redsfan28
What does Jay Bruce have to do to get a call-up??? He's tearing the cover off of the ball while we have an outfield that can barely hit above the Mendoza line. Does Bruce need to acquire some compromising photos of Dusty/Walt/BCast like Corey Patterson has? This is completely ridiculous! Bruce is being wasted in AAA when he could be getting his hacks in against MLB pitching. If the only reason he's down in AAA is his K to BB ratio, then get him up here and have him learn on the job. Let's... [Read More]

Billy Wagner's Latest
May 16, 2008 - 1:07 AM - by ljshorty89
I love Billy, honestly, because he tells it how it is. I don't want to hear people sticking up for their teammates if it's not deserved, and the way things are going right now, some of these veterans need to understand that they are hurting us more than the young players are. It is the Delgados and the Castillos, and even the Beltrans who are hurting us. Because they have to lead by example, and their examples have been awful this year. Wagner had the following to say after today's... [Read More]

More Madness than a Milkshake

Part Four: With Madness Comes Milkshakes

It's a staple of pure imagination, because well know nothing in this tournament would ever happen. It doesn't stop me from creating something of a spectacle in my head. Everything needs brackets and playoffs, life would never be the same without it. Questions I've faced:

1. Is it hurting you to have the Empire as well as Boston make it this far?

Realistically, yes, it is. Boston has won two world series in recent memory and I never want to see the yankees win anything, even fake tournaments. But let's be honest, they have good players and specifically, they have good players that are perfect for small playoff series. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez bleed clutch. Curt Schilling really does bleed, and he's a big game pitcher. Josh Beckett is a legend IMO just based on what he did in 2003 and 2007, Jack Morris smiles everytime Beckett pitches in the playoffs. ... [Read More]

The Madness Continues...

If you're lost, refer back to the intro and round 1 action here: The Beginning of Madness

Rob Deere Region

1 Detroit vs. 4 Atlanta
Kenny Lofton gets the game 1 start in left after Jacque Jones was the only Tiger without a hit in the first round. He opens up with a triple off Smoltz, when Smoltz soft tosses it over the middle of the plate. Renteria knocks him in, Detroit gains an early lead. Verlander goes on to whiff the Braves left and right, but Smoltz holds his own. Chipper ties it up on a solo shot in the 8th, but Detroit counters in the bottom off Moylan with a swift assault. Sheffield and Cabrera hit moon shots and Zumaya shuts the door. Reports leak that Leyland has been wrapping Zumaya in bubble wrap. Atlanta serves up slow ball with Tom... [Read More]

Why Saber Watches the Game-The American League

Why Saber Watches The Game-The American League

Even a cold-hearted bastard like me has a soft-spot for watching any team try to compete at such a high level. But why watch a team that isn’t your favorite, or even in the same league? Well, that’s easy…

AL East

Baltimore
….or maybe not that easy. But when I watch the Orioles, I see a young franchise centerfielder in Adam Jones. He is the kind of player a contender can be built around. When the ownership is making poor decisions, when it usurps the GM, when the team gets old and expensive and doesn’t win games, he’s the hope. Players like Adam Jones, Adam Loewen, Nick Markakis, are the men that, at the end of the day, you have to hang your hat on and say, “Maybe it isn’t so bad.”

Boston
Now here’s the thing. We all know how good Boston is as a team and as a franchise. That’s established. Where you really see it, though, is on the field. Boston players are very... [Read More]
